November 15, 2011NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Vanderbilt couldn't find its shooting range early, but used its athletic advantage to lock down Bucknell's shooters in an 80-68 win over the Bison at Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
VU held Bucknell, which hit 40 percent of its 3-pointers a year ago, to just 4 of 10 on 3-point shooting. The Commodores hit just 33.3 percent of their shots behind the arc, but got 17 more shots that the Bison thanks to a 14 to 3 edge in offensive rebounding. Three of BU's successful attempts came in the game's final minutes with the game already decided.
Jeffery Taylor scored 14 points, and Kedren Johnson, Brad Tinsley and Lance Goulbourne each added a dozen, and Rod Odom had 10 for the Commodores, who played without leading scorer John Jenkins, who sat on the bench in street clothes with a sprained ankle.
The Commodores held a 27-26 edge despite 34.3 percent first-half shooting, then went on a 29-14 run in the first 9:44 of the second half.
Joe Willman led Bucknell with 17 points.
