Brian Kelly has found his quarterback of the future.
Just three days after landing Texas running back Cam McDaniel, the Irish secured a commitment from coveted quarterback Everett Golson on Thursday.
Myrtle Beach High School athletics director Doug Terry confirmed the news with Irish Illustrated.
Golson had been committed to North Carolina since February but started looking at other options as the Tar Heels football program dealt with an NCAA investigation.
Notre Dame evaluated Golson prior to his original commitment and re-entered the mix once the three-star prospect started considering alternatives to North Carolina. The Irish hosted Golson on an official visit during the Utah game weekend and made their intentions clear.
"It went real good," Golson told Irish Illustrated after the visit. "I really felt kind of wanted and everything. The relationships up there were genuine and everything. And just seeing the campus, everything was beautiful. Everything was good."
Following the official visit, Golson returned home and has since led Myrtle Beach High School to the South Carolina Class 3A state championship game against South Pointe on Saturday.
Despite missing a large portion of the season with a wrist injury, Golson has 22 touchdowns against just one interception in leading the Seahawks to their third straight state title game appearance.
Golson is expected to enroll at Notre Dame in January and will also walk on to the basketball team.
