Last year over 90 different Division I colleges plus numerous scouts watched as the Showcase was held at Clemson University in South Carolina.
The 2002 Team One SOUTH moves to Atlanta and Georgia Tech this weekend. There will be eight teams made up of players from the Southeast.
Florida, alone, has three teams of players and roughly 60% of the players this weekend. Other players will come from Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, the Carolinas and several other states.
"It's our biggest and best Showcase of the summer this year," said Team One President Jeff Spelman. "There are only two or three summer events that attract the quality of players and number of recruiters as this event. Team One South is going to have lots of future top-five round draft picks and probably 70-80 players who will sign with Top-40 type college programs."
One of the more touted players this weekend will be Alex Boston, a two-sport star from Florida. In football he has already been offered scholarships to Miami, Florida, Florida State and many other top programs. In baseball, he's a multi-tooled rightfielder who is sure to attract a lot of interest this weekend.
Pitching will be plentiful this weekend. One player will definitely be towering over others this weekend. That will be 6-10 pitcher Erik Sewell of North Florida Christian.
Team One will also feature at least five junior college players this weekend. All just completed their first year of JC ball. The two headline guys are pitchers from Chipola JC in Florida: T.J. Large and Kellen Ludwig. Both will pitch for the USA Team this weekend. Ludwig touched 95-96 MPH this Spring and was taken in the 12th round by San Francisico back in June.
