COLUMBUS, Ohio - There aren't too many college football players in their late 20's but for kicker Devin Barclay the chance to play football came at a later stage in life after trying his luck in the professional soccer arena.
In 2009 the kicking duties seemed as if they were locked up by Aaron Pettrey all until an injury cut the second half of his season short (he did end up returning for the Rose Bowl). Once that bad break for the Bucks happened it turned into an opportunity for Barclay and under the lights of Ohio Stadium the dream came true with a game winning field goal to clinch the Big Ten title and a trip to the Rose Bowl for Ohio State.
Fast forward to 2010 and Barclay is the wily veteran with half a season of kicking under his belt. But there is a challenge from a young upstart in Drew Basil and while the senior kicker wants to see the future of the program served he has his own intentions of keeping the job for himself.
We caught up with Barclay after Saturday's kick scrimmage and asked him about his big outing where he was near automatic and how that might translate into the very tight race for the starting placekicker spot.
