May 20, 2010A year ago, it looked as if Mike Gilchrist had a such a tight grip on the top ranking for the class of 2011 that he would never face any serious challenge for the No. 1 spot.
Gilchrist is a fine athlete who is versatile with the ball. He also has a great motor and plays terrific defense.
He can still lay claim to the top spot in the class of 2011, but Gilchrist has competition - and from a fellow Kentucky commitment, no less.
Indiana point guard Marquis Teague, who like Gilchrist is committed to UK, checks in at No. 2 and is the top point guard in the country. Power forward James McAdoo (a North Carolina commit) checks in at No. 3 and is still the top player at his position despite missing some time with injury.
Finally, it's important to note the emergence of four players who went from unranked to five-star status. Chicago big man Anthony Davis was a revelation this spring. Syracuse-bound combo guard Michael Carter-Williams, wing Mycheal Henry (an Illinois commitment) and St. Louis wing Ben McLemore all made major impressions with their play.
