Freshmen Get Chance To Impress
Any conversation about Tennessee football these days is almost certain to include some focus on the Vols' freshman class and the potential of some of the newcomers to make an instant impact. On Saturday some fresh faces got a chance to show what they can do, and as they have all week, several showed that they will figure in the coaching staff's plans this fall as contributors.
The biggest name among any of the freshman is undoubtedly Bryce Brown, last year's top recruit in the country, but he's hardly the only young talent who could carve out a role this fall.
On Saturday Brown didn't break off any dazzling long runs, but he did run the ball with authority and showed uncommon power for a freshman. He had one nice scoring run inside the 10-yard line that required some grit, and showed his toughness when he bounced back from one of the hardest hits of the afternoon with an explosive 13-yard run.
