DePriest looks to be the best
The stars for the class of 2011 in the state of Ohio continue to shine and one of the brightest stars will most likely be Trey DePriest out of Springfield (Ohio) South high school. The 6-foot-2, 223-pounder already has seen a flurry of interest and can expect more when schools are able to put offers in writing for members of the 2011 class.
"Things are going well," DePriest said. "I have six verbal (offers) over the summer."
To date the outside linebacker already has verbal offers from Michigan, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Cincinnati and Central Michigan. The summer has been a busy one with DePriest making his rounds on the camp circuit.
"I went to all of those camps," DePriest said. "(I went to the Ohio State camp) and that is where I got my Central Michigan offer."
With many of the top Midwestern players making a stop at the Ohio State camp how did DePriest feel that he stacked up against a crew of talented opponents?
"I think I did pretty well," DePriest said. "I only lost one of my one-on-ones so I think I did pretty well."
Players like Braxton Miller and Steve Miller have been placed on the de facto list of top players for the 2011 class but many believe that DePriest will be right up there and mentioned in the same breath. What does it mean to the rising junior to know that he is that well thought of?
"It is exciting for people to think that about me," DePriest said. "I think that I am but it is good that other people think that. It is really exciting to know about that and I want to give they ask for."
The Buckeyes have been keeping tabs on the 2011 star as well and with Springfield only being a short ride West on I-70 there is little doubt that the Ohio State coaching staff will not be on top of DePriest's recruitment. What has Ohio State been saying to DePriest about where he stands with the Buckeyes?
"They have said they will most likely offer on September 1st," DePriest said.
Like with many in-state players there will be a lot of pressure to stay within the borders of Ohio. DePriest joked about already starting to hear some of the whispers from his friends but he has kept a pretty cool head about it and knows that he has to do what is best for him.
"It is cool but like I have told everyone if it is the best fit for me then that is where I will go," DePriest said. "But if it isn't then so be it."
