Cotton looks forward to the competition
Heading into the state track meet, Jordan Cotton had a good chance to win a few individual titles and possibly a team championship as well. Instead, his weekend was cut short after suffering a hamstring injury in the prelims for the 100 meter dash. The future Hawkeye talks about the injury, how long he might be out, when he is moving to Iowa City, and much more.
Q: First of all, how is your leg? How's the hamstring injury?
COTTON: It's doing okay. Day by day it's getting better. I can walk on it fine and I'm up to jogging and can get up to 80% running, so we'll see what happens. I'm going to go up Friday to see the trainers and see what they say.
Q: What happened exactly?
COTTON: I don't know. When I was running with about 20 meters left in the race, I just pulled up and felt it tweak a little bit.
Q: How long do they think it might be?
COTTON: Probably a couple weeks.
Q: Obviously, a disappointing end to a great track season.
COTTON: Yeah, it was stressful because I couldn't compete and help the team. We were trying to shoot for a state title, but the injury kind of ended that. It was hard to just watch everyone else knowing it was the last track meet that I'll ever run in.
Q: If there's any good news, it's that it wasn't worse I guess.
COTTON: Yeah, that was the good news that it wasn't a tear or a pull or anything because that will set you out for a while. I'm thankful that it wasn't anything too serious.
