Jones undergoes surgery
Georgia coaches can breathe a sigh of relief regarding starting center Ben Jones.
The sophomore underwent surgery last week on his left thumb at St. Mary's Hospital, but according to Associate Athletic Director Claude Felton Tuesday night in an email, Jones should be ready to begin summer workouts in June.
The exact cause of Jones' injury was not disclosed, but the Centreville, Ala. native told UGASports Saturday that he had suffered some damaged ligaments.
Jones appeared in all 13 games for Georgia last year, including 10 starts. A member of the All-SEC Freshman team, Jones also earned SEC Honor Roll and Director's Honor Roll distinction for fall semester.
He was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week following Georgia's win Nov. 10 at Kentucky.
