KU makes it five straight Big 12 titles
So much for a rebuilding year in Lawrence, Kan. No. 9 ranked Kansas (24-6; 13-2), despite losing to Texas Tech, 84-65, on Wednesday night, clinched at least a share of its fifth conference championship. The Jayhawks can win the title outright by defeating the Texas Longhorns (20-9; 9-6) on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 CST. No matter what happens inside Allen Fieldhouse, KU, because of tiebreakers, is guaranteed the No. 1 seed for next week's Big 12 tournament. Having lost all five starters, and a key reserve, from last years National Championship team, Bill Self and the Jayhawks have been one of the biggest surprises this season.
Despite the loss to Texas Tech (13-7; 3-12), Kansas is guaranteed at least a share of its fifth straight Big 12 regular season crown. It marks the Jayhawks ninth Big 12 title in the 13 year history of the league and KU's 52nd conference regular-season title all-time, which leads the nation.
