Brown commits to CSU
Matt Stephens
GoldandGreenNews.com The rumors are true, Wichita (KS) Bishop Carroll tight end Joe Brown has made a verbal commitment to Colorado State.
"It's true, I verbally committed on Thursday," said Brown.
The 6-foot-3, 215 pound work horse who spends his winters playing basketball managed to gain 782 yards receiving a year ago as a junior and as if that wasn't enough, he topped last year's mark by bringing down 78 receptions for over 1,000 yards as a senior.
Brown, who is being recruited by Rams defensive line coach Scott Brown (no relation), said he was able to visit Fort Collins a little before Christmas.
"I thought the city was beautiful, I loved it up there. I got to meet a few players, but don't really remember their names
I know I didn't have a chance to meet [Kory Sperry]."
The Wichita tight end had only one other scholarship offer, Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. Brown said he really wanted to play Division I.
"I thought it was a tough decision between Missouri State and Colorado State, but I just wanted to play D-I. D-I has always been my goal and it was a hard decision, but I knew pretty much that D-I was where I wanted to play."
Aside from the appeal of playing in college football's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), Brown likes the direction that the Rams are heading.
"I think Coach Fairchild is a great coach. He was with the Rams when they were so good and I think he's putting them back in that direction. A great turn around season."
