AU defense turns to youngsters in win
Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville has been called a gambler, mostly early in his head coaching career. Saturday against Tennessee-Martin, Tuberville made another gamble. He didn't go for it on fourth down. No trick plays. But Tuberville's gamble was a big one, he said.
Fortunately for Auburn, it paid off. The Tigers got back on the winning track with a 37-20 win.
With defensive tackles Sen'Derrick Marks and Tez Doolittle, and defensive end Antonio Coleman hampered with injuries, Tuberville and the Tigers decided to sit the three starters. Doolittle dressed out, but didn't play. Marks and Coleman didn't bother.
That left Auburn with many holes to fill along the defensive line.
It filled those spots with three sophomores.
