Croom's Monday Teleconference
With his team sitting at 1-3 heading into face the defending national champion LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge this weekend, Mississippi State head coach Sylvester Croom is not ready to throw in the towel.
Instead, Croom will spend his time trying to correct the mistakes the Bulldogs have made throughout the first four weeks and also find ways to spark some offensive firepower in the red zone.
"I still believe in this football team," Croom said during his Monday morning teleconference. "We've just got to get some mistakes corrected.
"We've been through a great deal of adversity here before. We've dug ourselves in a hole. I expect our guys to continue to fight our way out of this hole. The thing that I have to do is find some ways to help them and find a few more weapons with the people we have. We're not going to get anymore people. We've got to find a way and do some things to give ourselves a better chance to get the ball in the end zone."
Croom and the coaching staff will continue to minimize the offensive playbook in order to maximize their execution.
"We will still continue to reduce things and increase our reps on things," Croom said. "We will try to get some more people involved that hadn't played. I'm very pleased with the way Robert Elliott performed the other day. I thought he gave us a little energy while he was out there and made some nice plays. He'll be playing even more."
Elliott carried nine times for 36 yards and scored the only MSU touchdown on a 6-yard draw in the fourth quarter. He also hauled in three passes for 34 yards. Croom said that Elliott would move ahead of Christian Ducre on the depth chart as the Bulldogs No. 2 tailback.
