Green anchors AU's interior o-line
In more than 25 years of coaching, Auburn assistant Hugh Nall has developed a number of NFL offensive linemen including three draft picks over the last three seasons.
Senior Tyronne Green has a chance to be next.
"When you look back at Tyronne's junior year, really his first year of playing a lot, I thought he had a really good year," said Nall. "He has a bright future if he really wants to."
But Nall, who blocked for the legendary Herschel Walker at Georgia, is not about to let Green or any of his linemen sit on their laurels.
"There's certainly a lot of things he has to work on like blocking on the second level, finishing blocks on linebackers," said Nall. "A lot of that stuff has to improve.
"I'll tell you, when they start getting good, they're gone. That's just the way it is in this business. Not that they aren't good when they're playing, the offensive line is a really difficult position to play. You've got to make a lot of mistakes to be real good."
Green is one of three returning starters in AU's interior offensive line although Chaz Ramsey's status for this season remains uncertain. Ramsey, who started 10 games as a true freshman last season, missed most of spring practice after injuring his back.
Ramsey is still trying to battle back from surgery this summer but may need to redshirt this fall.
Fortunately, for Nall and the AU offensive line, Byron Isom stepped in for Ramsey in the spring and may never look back. The sophomore was named the team's most improved offensive lineman.
