Michigan State has leaned heavily on summer football camps as a means to identify and sign some outstanding football players during Mark Dantonio's three years in East Lansing.

Detroit Country Day athlete Bennie Fowler was identified as a high-priority recruiting target by the Spartans after he turned in one of the top performances at Michigan State's elite player one-day camp in June.

Fowler was offered shortly after tearing up Michigan State's June camp.
