Florida QB has something to prove
Floridian Denard Robinson wants to play quarterback at the next level, but he appreciates honesty just as much.
That's why he's willing to listen to Purdue, which projects the 6-foot, 180-pounder as a better prospect at wide receiver or cornerback.
"I love how the coaches there (at Purdue) have handled me," said Robinson, a dual-threat quarterback at Deerfield Beach High School, "because they don't lie to me. I just appreciate how they've been straightforward. Don't lie to me, just tell me 'this is where we have you on our list.' I like schools that do it right."
Along with Purdue, Robinson has offers from Florida, Auburn, LSU, UCF and Rutgers, among others. He says he plans to use his senior season to prove he's a capable quarterback. As a junior, he passed for nearly 2,000 yards, with 17 touchdowns, and had 428 yards rushing.
"This season I want to prove that (being a quarterback) is what I do," Robinson said.
"I want to be a quarterback
maybe. I'd just like to get that chance; I've played that at this level and I'd like to see at Division I, just as a quarterback."
Though he doesn't yet know where he'll camp this summer, Robinson says he'd like to travel to several places throughout the country. He says a trip north, to perhaps Purdue and Michigan is definitely a possibility.
"I just want to travel the country and go to camps to show my ability," he said. "I just like having fun, doing something I love. I just want to show people that."
Robinson says location's not going to play much of a factor in his college choice.
"It really doesn't matter," he said. "I could play football in rain, hail, snow, whatever. It really doesn't matter."
But Robinson, who says he's undecided on a major, says education will play a factor.
"It's the most important thing," he said. "After I graduate from the school, what kind of job opportunities would I have? What kind of pull would I have?"
