Practice Insider: First workout in pads

USCFootball.com The intensity level on Howard Jones Field ratcheted up a notch when shoulder pads went on for the first time this spring. It was also the first back-to-back practice of the year but Pete Carroll thought his guys handled the challenge well. Inside: The defense dominates, the players adjust to pads and the offensive line is communicating well.
As the team works their way into their practice routine Carroll sees a lot of good things happening, with guys showing speed and playing very aggressively.
"I know we look like we are somewhat of a young team but we have a lot of football in us," Carroll said after practice. "Guys seem to have a sense of what we are trying to do on both sides of the ball at an early date and we are executing a lot of stuff."
Both sides of the ball have made plays and the coach couldn't be happier with his team's progress.
