Illini offer Rivals100 linebacker
The second major scholarship offer is in for Tallahassee (Fla.) FAMU linebacker Willie Ferrell. The Northern Florida prospect already has one SEC offer in his pocket with LSU's name on the table and now he a Big Ten team has added its name to the mix.
"Illinois offered me," Ferrell said. "Actually my coach was calling around about film and stuff and coach Disch from Illinois said that they were gonna call my coach anyway and the assistant head coach was going to call and say that they wanted to offer me a scholarship. I was on a field trip and my coach, Coach Cofield called me and told me."
Ferrell was excited about the new opportunity with the Illini.
"Of course it was exciting," he said. "It was very exciting especially on the move they're making. They're on the rise."
Ferrell insists that he would be open to leaving the Southeast for the Big Ten country as long as it was the right fit.
"I'm pretty much wide open," he said. "It doesn't really matter. I could wind up way up North it doesn't matter as long as it's the place for me. I got to make it home wherever it is."
Among the other schools that are recruiting him are some big name programs such as Southern California, Georgia, Notre Dame and Boston College.
Right now, there are a few more schools that Ferrell would like to see offers from including USC, Georgia, Florida State, Florida and East Carolina. However, Ferrell doesn't plan on naming any favorites any time soon.
"Everyone will know my favorite when I sign my letter of intent."
Before that day, Ferrell has a lot of work left to do on the football field and he is hoping for a big close to his high school career.
"I'm working on everything," he said. "I'm trying to get stronger, I'm trying to get more explosive. In about 15-20 minutes I'm going to work on my explosiveness, doing some box drills. I want to work on my ankles and my feet getting quicker. I'm watching film, everything I can do to get better. I want this to be the best season of my career."
Ferrell also has a busy schedule in camps and combines.
"I'm going to the Five-Star Academy on Saturday at Florida State," he said. "I'm going to camp at FIU, USC, I'll probably go to Illinois sometime, pretty much a lot of places. It seems like every day it changes for me."
