Cats to get better test at Old Spice
The Kansas State Wildcats are 3-0, ranked 18th in the nation and possess possibly the greatest freshman player in the country during a season loaded with great freshman players. So far, this is all we know about Michael Beasley and the Wildcats as they prepare to open play at the Old Spice Classic held at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
Starting with K-State's game with the George Mason Patriots on Thanksgiving night, the entire college basketball world will begin to learn a lot more about these Wildcats. George Mason returns some of the key elements that helped the Patriots advance to the Final Four in 2006, meaning the Cats are about to get a much tougher test.
"When you take a team from a conference like the Colonial Athletic Association, they're going to be a battle-tested team," first-year K-State coach Frank Martin said. "They play very good basketball. That's obvious by when they made the run to the Final Four. This group of senior leaders of this team has been together for four years and was part of that team. They're a very good basketball team.
"They're very well coached and very disciplined. They have very good players at all the positions. It's going to be a great challenge for us and one we're looking forward to."
