Conference Call: A different week
Usually this time of year is set aside for smack talk between Aggies and Longhorns across the state of Texas, but for the first time in a long time the annual rivalry between Texas A&M and Texas is taking a back seat. That's because A&M head coach Dennis Franchione is coming under fire and most Aggie fans are waiting for the day after the game to see if Franchione truly goes. Texas fans are probably wondering the same thing.
Franchione and his team, however, have been dealing with the distractions for most of the season now and are looking forward to trying to finishing the regular season with a repeat of last season's upset over Texas in Austin and an end to the current three-game losing streak.
To top that off, when A&M faces Texas Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Kyle Field, it will be a rivalry game for state bragging rights that brings the best out of every player on the field regardless of the conversations on Internet message boards, in newspapers or in the stands.
"No. 1, you have a few extra days to get ready, and for us we haven't had an open week so that's been pleasant," Franchione said. "There really isn't any comparison to this week to any other week in the season. It's a totally different week in just about every facet. You still have to do your fundamental work in preparation and things like that. The guys' excitement and looking forward to a game like this is completely different.
