Young, Brown propel Panthers
Sam Young continued his strong start to the season, while Gilbert Brown continues to improve, as he had a career-game in Pitt's 78-45 win over Mississippi Valley State Thursday night.
Young tied a career-high 12 rebounds while leading the team with 17 points, recording his fourth career double-double. It was also his 32nd game in his career scoring in double figures, with 12 of those coming in the last 15 games dating back to last season. Brown got his first career game in double figures, and did not miss a shot of any type (field goal, three-point or free throws).
The Panthers were never in danger of losing on Thursday night, but the performance of Young and Brown made the biggest difference, as the two of them combined to go 10-of-13 from the field while The rest of the team was 21-of-55. Young and Brown combined to go 3-of-4 from three-point range, while the rest of the team was 3-of-18. The dynamic duo was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. The other Panther players combined to go 4-of-8.
Head Coach Jamie Dixon feels Brown is a work in progress, but in the meantime, will become a bigger factor in games as the season wears on.
