Five on Fire
The Five on Fire is not a suggested starting five, but rather our take on the five players that performed the best over the last week. The Golden Hurricane has now played two games, both in the CBE Classic, with mixed results. So, here is our second installment of the Five on Fire for the 2007-2008 basketball season, listed in alphabetical order.
Glenn Andrews, FR, Guard
Andrews proved last week that his performance in the exhibition game was no fluke, as he continues to impress. It is amazing that this kid is a true freshman. He finished both games in double figures this past week, averaging 13 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, with just 1.5 turnovers. Andrews is currently Tulsa's second leading scorer, notching 12 points against Hampton and 14 against North Florida. On the season, he is shooting 45-percent from the field and a very nice 50-percent from beyond the arc. Andrews is playing 23 minutes per game and earned his first start against North Florida.
Rod Earls, SR, Guard
Earls just wasn't Earls in the Golden Hurricane's opening game, playing only 15 minutes without tickling the twine once. But he bounced back in a huge way against North Florida with a terrific 18 point, 8 rebound performance. He also contributed three assists and three steals in his 32 minutes. Despite the poor outing in the opener, he is on fire so far this year, shooting 53.8-percent overall and 57.1-percent from three-point land. He is averaging 9 points and 4 rebounds on the year.
