FSU-Virginia Tech: Preview, Analysis & Prediction
Florida State's disappointing season got a major shot in the arm last week with the 27-17 upset over previously undefeated and No. 2 ranked Boston College. If the 'Noles can make it two straight on the road this weekend then the excitement and expectations in Tallahassee will begin to skyrocket.
As impressive as FSU's win in Boston was last weekend, Bobby Bowden's recent teams have a history of stumbling following a big victory. Just last year, FSU followed up a huge road win at Miami in the season opener with a disappointing effort versus Troy followed by a home loss to Clemson. With a road tilt at No. 11 Virginia Tech (7-2, 4-1) this Saturday, the 'Noles' recent trend of inconsistency will be get the ultimate test. But unlike those past teams, the current squad is coached by a very different group.
The players are hopeful that the changes brought in by the new staff will make a difference this time around.
"I think it's big and that's an area we've struggled in since I've been here, just being consistent," quarterback Drew Weatherford said. "That's something we've continued to try to work on which is something the new coaches have brought in, just being consistent and process oriented... It's really big for us. It's not about winning or losing but for us to come out and play good football. If we do that we'll be in a situation to win the ballgame."
