Stanford Preview: Defense
Though the big win over USC was followed up by a narrow defeat at the hands of TCU, Stanford should still enter Saturday's game at Arizona with a good amount of confidence in its abilities.
That confidence should help the Cardinal's cause, but it doesn't change the fact that nationally, Stanford ranks near the bottom in most defensive categories. It is 106th in total defense, 97th in scoring defense, 75th in rushing defense and 111th in passing defense.
Despite the rankings, though, this is a defense that does some good things, especially around the line of scrimmage as Stanford ranks 17th in sacks with three per game and 19th in tackles for loss with nearly eight per game.
