Wordy Williams feeling optimistic
When the 2006 season kicked off for the Syracuse Orange, wide receiver Mike Williams didn't know what to expect.
One would think a freshman would have some sort of butterflies, but not Williams.
"Mike Williams is a handful right now," former Orange quarterback Perry Patterson said in an interview last season. "Most freshman come in and are quiet and want to learn. Mike is the total opposite. He came in with his mouth going. He wanted to learn and get better, but I guess him talking on the field gives him confidence."
Call his talking on the field a confident booster or whatever else you want, but Williams backed up everything he was saying with a stellar freshman performance.
"I think last year was something new for me," Williams said. "I knew I could play and when my time came I was ready."
