The Big Chief is learning the ropes
In the past two classes, Texas Tech has taken advantage of what the NCAA terms as “greyshirts.” When a player greyshirts, they are allowed to enroll in less than nine hours in the fall semester, and can work out and learn the team’s playbook, but cannot practice. Then, at the beginning of the spring semester, they enroll full-time and are a normal scholarship player. However, they still maintain the option of seeking a redshirt, essentially giving them six years to play four.
One of last year’s greyshirts, Lyle Leong, has pressed for major playing time this season and is one of the most promising young players on the roster. Leong was joined as a greyshirt last year by Adam James, who is now redshirting.
