App State Football: Week Three Hot 11
The Appalachian State Mountaineers have been nothing short of amazing in the first two games of the season, which makes the task of choosing players for our Hot 11 that much more difficult. But, we gave it a shot. And to be fair, just know that there are probably another 11 guys that could have easily cracked this list.
In fact, we cheated just a bit, as we named several "groups" to our Hot 11 to make sure we covered our bases. So, here are our picks for week three
Please note that this is not a ranking of who we think is the best player on the team, but who we feel is the hottest heading into Saturday.
1) Dexter Jackson -- The senior wide receiver has been waiting patiently for his turn to be the man at receiver and now that he's got it, he has been an unstoppable force. So far this season, Jackson has taken four of his five catches to the house and averaged an astounding 33.8 yards per reception. His speed has simply been too much for either of the Mountaineers first two opponents. Chances are, that will continue to be the case through the rest of the season.
2) Pierre Banks -- With 19 tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss, one sack, a fumble recovery and a blocked field goal already gracing his stat sheet, Banks is on track to make a strong case for the Buck Buchanan Award. The junior flies around the field like no other and has been brilliant at reading the opposing team's offense. His ability to move around the field has made him a perfect fit for the Bandit position.
3) Corey Lynch -- Lynch has simply been phenomenal through the first two games of his senior season. The longtime starter at safety has nose for the ball and anytime the Mountaineers need a big play on defense, fans can bet that Lynch will be in position to make the play. He is as cool as they come when under pressure, as evidenced by his blocked field goal against Michigan, and his demeanor on the field has spilled over to his teammates. He's a leader in the true sense of the word and opposing teams feel his impact on every down.
