Boyd, Cook spearhead tight end renaissance
South Carolina fans may not have realized it at the time but they may have witnessed the renaissance of the tight end position Saturday night in the 28-14 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette.
Andy Boyd had a career-high three receptions for 48 yards and Jared Cook had two receptions for 34 yards for USC.
In all, tight ends were involved in six of the 21 completions by USC quarterbacks, a staggering percentage (28.6 percent) considering the way the position has been utilized the last several years.
"The quarterbacks made the reads, we got some balls thrown our way and we had the opportunity to catch them," Boyd said. "I was open a couple of times and quarterbacks just made their reads. It's definitely nice. I'm not complaining at all."
