A.J. Simmons battling for playing time
As Arizona's season opener at BYU on Sept. 1 approaches, players will continue to battle to move up the depth chart and earn playing time.
One of those positions is at tight end. With junior Travis Bell, redshirt freshman A.J. Simmons and true freshman Rob Gronkowski all seeming to have a legitimate shot at playing time in 2007, each is hoping to separate themselves from the others.
Simmons is currently on top of the depth chart that the UA released - although it's speculated that Gronkowski is really the starter - and is confident that he's going to get the chance to show himself on the field.
"I think I'm definitely going to get my shot," he said. "I think I'm going to play and that's something that the coaches keep telling me. They say to keep working hard and I'm going to get on the field."
With the installation of the new offense at Arizona, the tight end position is one that has undergone one of the more drastic changes, essentially getting split into a small and big version of the same position with each having different roles.
