Cook suspended by school, released on bond
South Carolina strong safety Emanuel Cook has been arrested by police and booked into the Richland County Detention Center on the misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of a pistol.
Under the provisions of the applicable South Carolina criminal statute, Cook faces a possible $1,000 fine or up to a year in jail, or both.
The statute provides as follows: "It is unlawful for anyone to carry about the person any handgun, whether concealed or not. . ." unless one of the 16 specific exceptions apply.
Cook's arrest comes on the heels of the suspensions of quarterback Blake Mitchell and two other players for one game as a result of excessive absences from the classroom during summer school.
