Notebook: Brooks Reed switches to defense
Arizona's official roster will look a little different than expected when the Wildcats take on BYU on Sept. 1. On Wednesday, one UA player announced a position switch, while another confirmed that he's done playing football.
Reed switches to defense
6-foot-3, 252-pound redshirt freshman Brooks Reed has switched positions, moving from H-Back to defensive end. Reed, who prepped at Sabino in Tucson, played both fullback and defensive end in high school, so he has experience at the position.
Earlier Wednesday, the UA coaches approached Reed about making the switch, and he then practiced with the defensive ends.
"They just wanted to see me on defense," Reed said. "They thought about it since spring and now it's actually happening."
While there's obviously going to be a transitional period, Reed says he enjoyed his first day at the new position.
