KU center impressive in workout
Wednesday's scrimmage on the University of Kansas campus delighted hundreds of campers and onlookers. Former Jayhawks Aaron Miles, Michael Lee, Billy Thomas, and Nick Bradford joined the current KU stars in a hard fought battle in a steamy Allen Fieldhouse. Senior-to-be Sasha Kaun was one of the top performers, which is a positive sign for the coaching staff and fans, as Kaun will be looked upon to be a difference maker during the 2007-08 season.
Kaun did use his time in Russia wisely, working out in what fans back in Kansas might picture as a Rocky IV-type regiment. The summer before his senior season is being spent in Lawrence, which will likely pay dividends heading into his final campaign as a Jayhawk.
"It's good to be here working out. It was good to get out and play with the guys today, so it was nice," said Kaun. "I think it's definitely important to play with the team and to workout in the summer. It's really going to help me get better."
Kaun continues to be one of the more physical players on the Kansas roster, yet seems to be getting even bigger. At 6-foot-11, 245-pounds, it would seem impossible to get any stronger, but building on his already steady frame is a goal Kaun hopes to achieve.
"I just want to build on my upper body strength and my conditioning," Kaun said. "I want to try and not be so tired, have more control over my body, especially late in the game."
