Goebel gets more comfortable with Irish
The last time Garrett Goebel visited Notre Dame, the 6-foot-5, 264-pound defensive tackle was one of many junior day visitors that toured campus and got an introduction to the Irish coaching staff. On Wednesday, Goebel spent several hours in South Bend learning more about what the Irish can offer.
The time the Lombard, Ill., standout got Notre Dame's undivided attention.
"It went really good," Goebel said. "I was there for a while. I first met with Corwin Brown, then Charlie Weis. After that I met with my position coach and the academic people and a computer professor."
During his time with Brown, Notre Dame's new defensive coordinator, Goebel learned what his role would be in the Irish's new defensive scheme.
"He showed me some film and told me where I'd be playing," Goebel said. "I liked that a lot and could see myself playing in their defense. I like what (Brown) is doing with the defense."
Goebel was equally impressed with what he heard from Weis.
