No summer break for UA football players
College football has become a year around sport.
Back in the day (a phrase that old guys like me toss out quite frequently) players raced for home on Christmas break, lifted a few weights from January to April when the mood struck 'em, endured finals in May with crossed fingers, and then settled in for steady employment until training camp rolled around in late August.
All that changed when the stakes went through the roof about a decade ago. The Bowl Championship Series (and its millions) put everyone on a 52-week work schedule.
