Barnes, Coples headlined final Shrine Bowl combine
The final Shrine Bowl combine was held Saturday at Greene Central High in Snow Hill, N.C. Around 275 players from primarily the eastern portions of North Carolina assembled on the 2-A school, and two potential top-five players in the state were there.
One, the athletic and speedy Brandon Barnes from Bunn High was unable to participate in many events because of a hamstring pull. Bunn head coach David Howle reported that Barnes was not cleared by a doctor Friday to run full speed on it. Barnes, who was 6-foot-0, 179 pounds, did do the vertical jump impressively at 34.3 inches. He also lifted 185 pounds 16 times on the bench press. Barnes told The Wolfpacker that NC State was indeed his top choice among the instate schools.
