D-Back search will highlight spring
The focus of Missouri's spring session will be set squarely on fixing a defense that broke down over the second half of the 2006 season. Nowhere will that focus be sharper than in the defensive backfield, where the Tigers find themselves replacing three-quarters of last season's starting lineup.
The losses of David Overstreet and Brandon Massey were planned for. William Moore and Cornelius Brown seem slated in those spots. But at corner, the decision to transfer by Domonique Johnson came as more of a surprise. Johnson's departure leaves the Tigers searching for a starter opposite Darnell Terrell this spring.
"We've got to sort some things out at cornerback and safety," said Gary Pinkel.
Some movement between corner and safety could still happen prior to next season. The Tigers did some of that switching in the off-season.
Del Howard played a fair amount at corner as a true freshman, but he has been moved to safety. Kevin Rutland redshirted last season at safety, but is now at corner.
