KU top seed in West Region
For the second time this month, Texas had Kansas up against the ropes, but failed to deliver the knockout blow. This time around, the Longhorns had a commanding 32-10 lead in the first half, but the Jayhawks made a furious comeback in the second half, and eventually won the game in overtime. Four players, Brandon Rush (19), Julian Wright (19), Sherron Collins (20) and Mario Chalmers (17) scored in double-figures.
Minutes after KU defeated UT in Sundays Big 12 Tournament Championship, Bill Self and the second-ranked Kansas Jayhawks (30-4; 17-2) were awarded the top seed in the West Region.
"To be honest with you, I'm pretty worn out right now, so it wasn't a - I wasn't ecstatic," said Self. "I thought we would get 1 seed if we won today. Of course, I'm sure we made it -- if they made the selection before the game was over, then I'm sure that had a chance to hurt our seed being down 22.
"But, I really am not that fired up right now," he added. "I will be, but I'm worn out. I'm tired. I think our players are, too."
For the second time this month, the Texas Longhorns positioned themselves to knock the Kansas Jayhawks right out of the game early on in the contest. When these two teams met in Lawrence back on March 3, UT jumped out to a 54-42 halftime lead, as Kevin Durant torched the Hawks for 25 first half points.
