Time to get excited
Fans of Tulsa basketball have watched the 2006-07 season with guarded optimism. Watching their beloved program endure back-to-back nine-win seasons a few years ago was excruciating after a 23-year run of success. Some Hurricane fans seem timid about jumping back on the bandwagon, but now is the time to go all in.
Just two years removed from those awful memories, Head Coach Doug Wojcik and his coaching staff have Tulsa in position for a 20-win season. That is an incredible feat.
At 16-9 overall, the Hurricane has four regular-season games left. The first is tonight at home against UAB. TU then welcomes Central Florida on Saturday before hitting the road to face SMU and Rice. If Tulsa wins all four, they would hit 20 wins for the first time in four years. If they don't, the Conference USA Tournament will provide another opportunity to hit that magic number.
20 wins used to be commonplace at Tulsa, but it isn't a mark to take for granted. Most programs dream of the success that TU has had in the past.
From the 1980-81 season through 2002-2003, the Golden Hurricane racked up over 500 wins, averaging over 20 per season during that span.
