Daring decision sinks Tigers in El Paso
EL PASO, TX--For 1,018 yards of total offense put up between Missouri and Oregon State, the 2006 Sun Bowl ultimately came down to nine feet. Having forged a furious rally in the final 6:02 to draw within 38-37, Oregon State decided they didn't want to go to overtime.
The Beavers lined up for a two-point conversion with just 22 seconds to play.
OSU tailback Yvensen Bernard took the last of his 23 carries for the final three of his 97 rushing yards. He wiggled just across the Missouri goal line for the final points in a thrilling 39-38 comeback win.
"They wanted to win the game," said Tiger cornerback Domonique Johnson. "Hell, what are they supposed to do?"
Even Gary Pinkel admitted he was "a little bit" surprised when Riley called for the two-point conversion.
