NU Notes: Jackson will get cast off this week
DALLAS - Junior running back Brandon Jackson was a big part of Nebraska's new found ground game in 2006.
Jackson played with a consistency level that allowed NU to capture their first Big 12 North Championship since 1999. As the Huskers begin preparations for this week's Cotton Bowl in Dallas against Auburn, there is still some question as to how healthy Jackson will be at game time.
Jackson broke his hand in the Big 12 Championship game against Oklahoma and he continues to wear a protective cast that hasn't allowed him to take a carry in several weeks.
Nebraska head coach Bill Callahan said on Tuesday that Jackson will have the cast taken off in the next day or two and he'll move into a lighter weight splint that will allow him to practice for the rest of the week.
"What they did is they're keeping him in a cast," Callahan said. "It's a smaller sized cast and they're about ready to progress to a splint. I think that will take place either today or tomorrow."
