Georgia Bulldogs (7-4, 4-4 SEC) are back home in Sanford Stadium for the first time since late October to face instate rivals #16 Georgia Tech (9-2, 7-1 ACC) to keep the Governor's Cup for the sixth straight season.
The Bulldogs hope to play spoiler again as they did to Auburn and their bid for a BCS at-large bowl game when Georgia beat the then fifth ranked Tigers in Auburn 37-15 on the road.
Under head coach Mark Richt, the Bulldogs are 5-0 against Georgia Tech and the Bulldogs have not lost a game to an ACC opponent under Richt (8-0).
Georgia holds the series edge 57-36-5, and the Bulldogs are 25-10-1 against the Yellow Jackets in Sanford Stadium.
Georgia won 14-7 last year in Atlanta and beat Georgia Tech 19-13 the last time they played in Athens in 2004.
The Bulldogs have won 12 of the last 15 meetings against Georgia Tech.
Recovered Dawgs
Following a bye week the Georgia Bulldogs will have their four top injured players back for Georgia Tech. Running backs Danny Ware, Kregg Lumpkin, receiver Mario Raley, and offensive tackle/guard Michael Turner will play Saturday afternoon after all missing parts or all of the Auburn game with injuries.
Lumpkin will start at tailback and Raley will start in the slot for the Bulldogs.
Senior defensive tackles Ray Gant and Dale Dixson will start at defensive tackle in their final home game.
Seniors Honored
Georgia will recognize 22 senior athletes before the kickoff Saturday in Sanford Stadium.
The 22 players are: Chris Abbott, Tra Battle, Dale Dixson, Marquis Elmore, Gordon Ely-Kelso, Ray Gant, Trahern Holden, Daniel Inman, Jarvis Jackson, Nick Jones, Charles Krauth, Martrez Milner, Quentin Moses, Joseph O'Keefe, Joe Tereshinski, Michael Turner, Danny Verdun, Stephen White, and Des Williams.
Some players are going through the ceremony even if they have a year of eligibility left because they wanted to be recognized with the class they entered at Georgia with.
Junior fullback Des Williams will forgo his final season of eligibility and will relinquish his football scholarship to pursue academics at Georgia.
Team Captains
The captains for the Georgia Tech game will be the entire 2006 senior class. The honorary captain for the game is former All-American and Super Bowl MVP safety Jake Scott (1966-68).
