Who will be the backup QB?
Kelly Quinlan
UGASports.com The Bulldogs (6-2, 3-2) made the short trek down to Sanford Stadium Thursday for practice in preparation for Saturday's game in Jacksonville. Georgia head coach Mark Richt had the field painted to resemble the pro-field in Alltel Stadium with NFL hash marks in place so the players could get their timing down using the different markings.
Coach Richt announced before practice that the backup quarterback job behind freshman starter Matthew Stafford is up for grabs between senior Joe Tereshinski and redshirt freshman Joe Cox.
Since being demoted to second string quarterback last week, Tereshinski was the main backup to Stafford, but coach Richt and quarterback coach Mike Bobo decided to divide the snaps more evenly between Cox and Tereshinski this week.
"They are both getting snaps during the week," said Richt on the competition between Cox and Tereshinski.
Tereshinski has passed for 423 yards three touchdowns and two interceptions in four games this season. Cox has 225 yards passing, two touchdowns, and one interceptions in limited action this season.
Coach Richt and coach Bobo will make a decision on the backup quarterback following practice Thursday.
"I am sure when I talk to Mike after practice we will know who it is I just do not think we will tell anyone," said Richt.
