Defense dominates as Wildcats move to 3-0

GoPowercat.com Kansas State knows it will be facing one of college football's best offenses when it takes on Louisville next week, but it's beginning to look like the high-powered Cardinals will be facing a test of their own against a suddenly stout Wildcat defense. For the second consecutive week the K-State (3-0) defense didn't allow the opposing offense to score a single point, yielding only a special teams touchdown in a 23-7 win over Marshall (1-2).
K-State used a similar theme, a big play on special teams, to set up its first score before the defense stole the headlines for the remainder of the contest. Linebacker Antwon Moore blocked a punt after Marshall's first possession to set K-State up at the Marshall 28-yard line, and just two plays later senior running back Thomas Clayton fought his way in from 3 yards out to give K-State a 7-0 lead.
The Thundering Herd would eventually answer with a blocked punt of its own to tie the game at 7-7 in the second quarter, but Marshall would hardly threaten offensively the rest of the way, and K-State did enough with the ball in its hands to put the visitors from Huntington away.
