NU Notes: Huskers will play without Mann at USC
For the second game in a row the Nebraska football team will be without the services of their most experienced starter on offense.
NU head coach Bill Callahan announced after Wednesday's practice that senior center Kurt Mann will not take part in this Saturday's USC game due to the viral infection he continues to overcome.
Mann was hospitalized this week to treat his virus, but Callahan would not say specifically what type of virus it is.
"I know what it is, but I'm not going to disclose anything at this point," Callahan said. "He's fine and I talked to him this afternoon. He's climbing the walls and he wants to get out of the hospital as soon as he can. He's doing great and he wishes he could be with this team, but unfortunately he's still a little weak."
Callahan is optimistic that Mann will be back for next week's Troy game on Sept. 23. Before missing last week's Nicholls State game, Mann had started 24 consecutive games at center for NU.
"I think he'll be back by then from everything I'm told," Callahan said. "We'll have to see."
