Tiger notebook: Freshmen help in win
The Tigers last shut a team out in 2004. Mizzou beat Ball State 48-0 at Faurot Field. Murray State did not pick up a first down until midway through the second quarter. Only a touchdown pass in the final three minutes prevented a goose egg on the scoreboard for the Tiger defense.
"I was really frustrated, man, cause we really wanted that shutout," said safety David Overstreet. "Now we just got to pitch one next week."
Gary Pinkel said he talked with defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus after the game and that Eberflus was irritated his first-team defense gave up a score after being re-inserted late in the game.
"That's something that coach E tells us all the time, that dominant players always dominate," Overstreet said. "Regardless of who you're playing, no matter what the score is, when they're down, you've got to basically step on their throats."
The Tigers will try their luck with the Ole Miss Rebels next Saturday.
