Avril seeing double duty
Cliff Avril feels a bit like he's having a flashback.
The Green Cove Springs, Fla., native is wearing his old high school jersey number, 32, and he's playing his former position, at least every once in a while.
Entering his junior season at Purdue, the linebacker is taking a few snaps at defensive end, where he played for four years at Clay High School, as the Boilers look to generate a pass rush in any way possible.
Needless to say, shuttling between the positions hasn't been much of a problem.
"There's nothing really to pick up," Avril said. "You've just got to beat a fat guy in front of you, I guess."
So far, the Purdue staff is pleased with what it has seen. During practice this week, when the Boilermakers are working on their nickel defenses, Avril has moved from his usual strong-side linebacker spot to the end of the D-line.
