Johnson optimistic as drills progress
Friday, Vanderbilt practiced twice--once in pads, once without--as the Commodores near the midway point between the opening of drills and the season opener at Michigan. Coach Bobby Johnson says he is pleased with the team's work so far, and put his squad through a light workout Friday evening in preparation for Saturday's scrimmage.

Did he feel good regarding the day's two practices?
"Yeah, we had some good work today, and we're scrimmaging tomorrow morning, so we didn't want to do too much tomorrow night. We want to be fresh tomorrow morning, have some good, fresh legs under us, and didn't want to get anybody hurt tonight, either."
