Blaney likes make-up at tight end
The tight end position is a spot where the competition may be heating up. Derek Fine is the returning starter. Marc Jones turned heads with his athleticism during seven-on-seven.
Practice has just begun and there is a long way to go before position battles are decided. But one coach who is happy about having fierce competition is Brandon Blaney.
"If feel like we have a good group of young men that can and catch it," Blaney said. "The physical part of the game is coming along after the first couple practices. It's going to be exciting to see how these guys progress over the next few practices, in camp, and in our preparation for the first game."
As mentioned, Jones has seemed to grab the headlines. He's got the size, speed, and the body. He has been mentioned by teammates as a newcomer to watch during summer camp. But it is Fine who has quietly built a solid Big 12 career and is the returning starter.
The question has to surface
with two athletic tight ends will the Jayhawks go to a double-tight set? Blaney wouldn't answer that question and tip off the future offensive plans. But he's happy with the personnel he will be coaching this year.
