NU Notes: Spain makes the move
For the second practice in a row the Husker coaching staff has moved a wide receiver to cornerback.
On Monday, NU head coach Bill Callahan moved senior Isaiah Fluellen to corner and on Tuesday, junior Tyrell Spain joined him.
This string of position moves is solely due to the fact Nebraska lost senior cornerback Zackary Bowman for the entire 2006 season with an ACL injury this past weekend.
Cornerbacks coach Phil Elmassian said the staff is trying to do anything possible to upgrade the corner position due to Bowman's loss.
Elmassian said Spain was actually recruited by Nebraska as an athlete, and at one time the staff had planned on making him a DB when he first got here.
"It was staff thing," Elmassian said of the decision to move Spain. "All of sudden we were kicking it around and Coz (Kevin Cosgrove) brought it up and Bill (Callahan) brought it up. The beautiful thing about it was when the young man was approached he didn't even flinch."
