Weis meets the press
Charlie Weis knew it was one of the hot topics of the off-season, so he wasted little time addressing the position change of Travis Thomas from running back to Will linebacker.
Actually, Thomas will be prepared to play both running back and linebacker, but he'll be given a chance to win a starting spot on defense since Darius Walker will enter the 2006 season as the starter at halfback.
"When you have a kid who is in his fourth year in the program (who) is a great athlete and he's a backup, and you look at your linebacker position and you're not real happy with the speed you have at that position, then you have to find out where the answers are," Weis said.
"I evaluated everyone on our team who I felt had the best opportunity to go over there and play. He was a great defensive player in high school, and he was also one of our best tacklers on special teams."
Thomas will line up at Will linebacker, the spot previously occupied by Brandon Hoyte.
